After her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy was ridiculed when snapped looking less than svelte as he walked alongside the supermodel on an Egyptian beach, while she looked stunning in a bikini, Carla vowed to cover up.
But this time, Carla saved her husband's political blushes, opting for a demure one-piece swimming costume for a dip in the Mediterranean waters.

Since they started their vacation late last month, the couple have taken a villa on the Cap Negre with Sarkozy's youngest son Louis, 11, and Carla's son Aurélien, seven.
The 53-year-old and his son Louis had a few days break from their holiday to fly to Beijing for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games last week.
On Friday, Sarkozy met Chinese President Hu Jintao and other world leaders during his brief visit.
But after flying back to France to join his bride over the weekend, it looked like Sarkozy couldn't wait to get out of his suit and into his swimming trunks.

While 40-year-old Carla initially showed off her figure in a bikini in Egypt, after the embarrassing photos of the couple on the beach appeared on all over the world's press, they vowed to let it never happen again.
As France's first lady she has now opted for a more modest black one-piece.
Despite being 13 years older than his Italian-born wife, it was Sarkozy giving Carla a helping hand as she manoeuvred herself over the slippery rocks into the sea.
Despite being a stone's throw away from the golden sands of Cavaliere beach in the seaside town of Lavandou, the couple opted for a rocky enclave away from the crowds.
The town of Lavandou, which has a 5,600 population, is swarmed by 60,000 holidaymakers every summer.
Cool down: France's first couple enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean
During the couple's three week holiday, they have been enjoying a host of activities, including snorkelling, sailing, tennis and water-skiing.
The holiday gives the couple some much-needed alone time, who have been forced to balance their whirlwind romance with Sarkozy's demanding political career.
The couple started dating in November and were married in the Élysée Palace in Paris on February 2nd.
Referring to their highly-publicised holiday in Egypt, Carla said: 'He never thought that our going to Egypt would make such a fuss.
'We took three days, and it lasted weeks and weeks (in the press). It looks like we spent five weeks lying on the beach, and we spent two hours. And for one hour he talked with Bernard Kouchner, because they were working hard.
'I said, "Nicolas, it’s not fair that people think you don’t work just because you’ve been wearing jeans with me.”'
