'I was born with six fingers on each hand' reveals Bond Girl Gemma Arterton in startling interview

New Bond girl Gemma Arterton may be many men's idea of the classic English rose, but her path to the beautiful actress she is today wasn't so easy.

The 22-year-old starlet, who plays Agent Fields in the upcoming Quantum Of Solace, admitted she was born with six fingers on each hand.

After undergoing an operation to have them removed, she still has bumpy scars as remainders of her extra digits.

The extra fingers were 'tied', which causes them to fall off naturally.

She tells Esquire magazine: 'It's my little oddity that I'm really proud of. It makes me different.'

Earlier this year, she revealed she was also born with a crumpled ear, which was corrected through surgery.

She said: 'I was born with lots of deformities.'

After being seen as dowdy Tess of the D'Urbevilles over the weekend, Gemma showed a far sexier side when she arrived at a London party to mark the end of author Ian Fleming's centenary year.

The 22-year-old showed off her curvaceous figure in a stunning gold dress.

Her outfit was a far cry from the dowdy clothes her character Tess wears in the BBC adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel.

Gemma lines up alongside Sir Roger Moore and current Bond Daniel Craig who she stars with in soon to be released Quantum of Solace

An entire host of Bond stars turned out to the event on Sunday to pay tribute to Bond author Fleming, including former 007 star Roger Moore and the current Bond, Daniel Craig.

A bevy of former Bond Girls also made an appearance, including Caroline Munro and Madeline Smith.

Quantum of Solace - the 22nd film - will be released on November 14.

Arterton beat off competition from 1,500 other hopefuls to get the role as the latest Bond Girl.

The star has this month moved her new Spanish boyfriend Eduardo Munoz into her two-bedroom flat in Crouch End, north London.

The actress met the 19-year-old 6ft 2in action man on the Moroccan set of the £50million blockbuster Prince Of Persia in August, where he was employed to teach her how to ride horses.

They hit it off immediately, despite the language barrier. But she has now had to hire a translator to help them understand each other better.

Oilfinger:Gemma Arterton coming to a sticky end in new Bond film

It's not unusual for Bond Girls to be bumped off in bizarre ways...but none has met a stickier end than this.

In the new 007 movie Quantum Of Solace, Gemma Arterton’s character is drowned in crude oil and her lifeless body is left draped over a bed in a scene deliberately reminiscent of the 1964 Bond classic Goldfinger.

Arterton, who plays an MI6 spy ordered to keep an eye on a renegade Bond, was covered from head to toe in sticky black liquid for the dramatic sequence.

She said: ‘I couldn’t move. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t breathe or hear because it went in my ears. It was unpleasant, but it’s something I’ll always remember and it will be an iconic part of the film.’

Producers will be hoping the image turns out to be as enduring as the memorable Sixties scene which inspired it.

In the original, arch-villain Goldfinger’s accomplice Jill Masterson, played by London-born actress Shirley Eaton, is killed after betraying her boss and sleeping with 007. She is asphyxiated after her entire body was covered in gold paint.

Royale flushed: Arterton, left, said when filming love scenes with Daniel Craig she couldn't help thinking about him in previous Bond movie Casino Royale, right

Twenty-two-year-old Arterton, from Gravesend in Kent, beat more than 1,500 hopefuls to the role of Agent Fields following her big-screen debut in last year’s remake of the riotous St Trinian’s boarding-school comedy.

Though dispatched to keep tabs on Daniel Craig’s 007, who is out of control following the death of his lover Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, she inevitably ends up in bed with him.

Speaking ahead of the release of Quantum Of Solace at the end of this month, Arterton said: ‘Kissing Daniel was great – I can’t pretend it wasn’t.

'It was my first day on set and I’d only met him once before, and then suddenly we were expected to kiss.

‘But I just couldn’t get that image of him walking out of the sea in Casino Royale out of my head. He was very cool and I was a giggling mess. I mumbled something like,
“I just kissed you!” and he just said, “Yes you did. And now we have to do it again.”

'Fortunately, he’s an incredible kisser.’

Gemma Arterton moves Spanish lover, 19, into her London flat and hires a language teacher

They say the language of love is universal, but that hasn’t stopped Bond girl Gemma Arterton running into a few communication problems with her new Spanish boyfriend.

The couple have just moved in together – but are having such problems understanding each other that 22-year-old Gemma has had to hire a translator.

The actress met 19-year-old stuntman Eduardo Munoz on the Moroccan set of the £50million blockbuster Prince Of Persia last month, where he was employed to teach her how to ride horses.

They hit it off immediately, despite the language barrier, and the 6ft 2in action man moved into Gemma’s two-bedroom flat in Crouch End, North London, last week.

A source on the film – which has now shifted production to Pinewood Studios, just outside London – said: ‘Gemma is crazy about Eduardo. They fell for each other pretty much on day one and language didn’t stand in the way of their feelings.

‘But now Gemma wants to take it to the next level. She has invited Eduardo to live with her in London and has hired a language tutor who is teaching her Spanish and him English.

‘Her Spanish is non-existent and his English is rudimentary, so she’s been on set this week saying how much fun it is to have a translator who is teaching them to communicate properly for the first time.’

Eduardo’s work on the film should have ended when the movie switched from Morocco to England, but Gemma has insisted more work be found for him.

‘She is glowing and incredibly happy. She looks and acts like a woman who is head over heels in love. She and Eduardo have made no attempt to hide their romance. They are always kissing and cuddling.

‘She told me she can’t wait to learn Spanish so she can go to Madrid and meet his family.’

Gemma ended her 18-month relationship with animator John Nolan, 27, earlier this summer, as her fame began to grow.

After making her movie debut in last year’s St Trinian’s revival, she beat 1,500 other young hopefuls to land the role of Daniel Craig’s love interest in the 22nd 007 movie Quantum Of Solace.

She is also starring in the current BBC adaptation of Tess Of The D’Urbervilles and played Elizabeth Bennet in ITV1’s Lost In Austen.

The daughter of a welder and a cleaner from Gravesend in Kent, Gemma now commands £1.5million a film, less than a year after graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Prince William and Prince Harry will see Gemma star as the kick-boxing Agent Fields when they attend the world premiere of Quantum Of Solace in London next month.

Gemma on the red carpet: The star is 'excited about meeting the Princes'

The source said: ‘Gemma is so excited about meeting the Princes. She was joking on set the other day that she might have a crush on Prince William if she wasn’t already in love with Eduardo. She intends to take Eduardo to the premiere.’

Eduardo grew up in a small village 40 miles from Madrid, where horse-riding was a way of life. His mother Mercedes, secretary of Madrid’s Carriage Riding Club, last night said that she was unaware who Eduardo was dating.

She said: ‘He’s not told me anything about a girlfriend. He’s living and working abroad. What he does with his private life is up to him.’

Gemma’s publicist was last night unavailable for comment. Her acting agents said they could not comment on her private life.
