The court ruling reportedly came after the troubled 25-year-old star failed to make herself available for random drug tests.
Britney Spears has had her visitation rights with her kids suspended
Los Angeles judge Scott Gordon suspended all contact between the singer and sons Sean, two, and one-year-old Jayden until she complies with court orders.
With her life seemingly still in chaos, the visitation ban now puts Spears' chances of winning back custody in serious jeopardy when she returns to court in a week's time.
The latest blow followed an emergency behind-closed-doors meeting at Los Angeles Superior Court requested on Wednesday by a lawyer for Spears' ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

The drastic action was triggered by the 'Toxic' singer's failure to provide contact information so she could be reached for random drug tests ordered by the court.
The order asks for a report to be drawn up by Spears' 'parenting coach' before October 26, the date of her next court appearance.
Spears was allowed to see her sons every other day after being forced to surrender full custody to her former husband at the beginning of this month.
One of the main reasons she had to give them up was because she did not submit to a drug test.
Both parents will be in court in a week's time when Spears plea for custody will depend on whether she can appease the family court judge by fulfilling her court-ordered obligations.

She had to get a California driving licence, attend a 'Parenting Without Conflict' class and undergo random drink and drug testing twice a week because she was engaging in 'habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol.'
Spears also had to spend eight hours a week with a parenting coach who would check her fitness as a parent at first hand.
Even after the public humiliation of losing custody of her children to Federline, Spears has continued to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Hours after handing over her boys she went to a Los Angeles tanning salon.
Spears and Federline were married for two years before their divorce became final in July.
Despite her legal tribulations, the one-time Disney Mousketeer still can't understand why people think she is such a bad role model.
Jewellery designer Tuesday Knight, who has been a friend of Spears since 2003, told In Touch magazine in the US that the star is a 'good mother.'
But she added: "People just read about her not wearing underwear."
However, despite Miss Knight's warning that going out without knickers is 'ridiculous' the singer won't stop the habit.
"Britney knows it's stupid, but says she just doesn't like to wear underwear. She doesn't feel comfortable with it on," she added.
