Miss Geri Halliwell goes to Washington

It may not be as memorable as her trademark Spice Girl Union Jack outfit, but Geri Halliwell took a more classic approach to her role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.

Dressed in a demure Jackie 'O' style dress, with her wild Titian locks tamed, Geri showed off a decidedly First Lady style of dress - and behaviour - as she posed for photographs outside some of the US state capital's memorable landmarks.

The Spice Lady brought to mind the film Legally Blonde as she struck a presidential pose outside the imposing US Congress, overlooking the Washington Monument at Capitol Hill, and inside the building.

In 2003's Legally Blonde sequel, a ditzy blonde turned lawyer Reese Witherspoon postpones her wedding to head to Capitol Hill to fight an anti-animal testing Bill.

Geri, 35, appeared to have a slightly more relaxing time, however, smiling broadly for the promotional shots as she takes in her historic surroundings.

But there was a serious side to the Spice Girl's presidential poise.

Geri, whose reunion tour with her Spice pals ended recently, was in Washington last month to advocate for maternal healthcare while the group were in the capital as part of the tour.

Advocate: Geri got down to the serious business of discussing the serious health issues that face women and mothers worldwide with Congressmen Jim Moran and Jim McGovern

She attended a meeting with Congressmen Jim Moran and Jim McGovern to discuss the serious health issues facing women and mothers worldwide as part of her mission on behalf of the development agency.

Regarding her position as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, Geri has said: "Like many women, I take my right to reproductive and sexual health care for granted, but for women in the developing world, getting pregnant can mean the difference between life and death."

Clearly, it's a subject close to the heart of mother of one's heart.

And there's no harm in looking the part either.
